There is currently an issue on the Authorize.net affecting all clients who utilize Authorize.net as their payment processor, which includes our Bowl-a-Thon campaigns on Classy. Authorize.net is aware of the issue and posting updates through their status page which can be found here: https://status.authorize.net/

Yesterday Classy pushed an update to their website that unintentionally caused a problem with their Authorize.net payment processor. Due to the problem, several donations to Bowl-a-Thon pages made between 6:30pm and 8:00pm EST failed. Once the problem was noticed, the Classy engineering team quickly reverted the update. Donations have been processing successfully since then.

This evening there was an interruption in ability to donate on the Bowl-a-Thon platform. Donations are now going through. We know this is a crucial fundraising moment and are investigating the issue thoroughly. This page will be updated with any new information as it becomes available.

A message from the Bowl-a-Thon team at the National Network of Abortion Funds:
We’re so sorry to hear that a number of donors and participants have been experiencing technical errors and glitches during this first year using Classy as a new platform for the National Abortion Access Bowl-a-Thon! At NNAF, we view it as our responsibility to work with Classy to make participating in Bowl-a-Thon more user friendly and glitch-free for the organizations who are using it and for everyone who is supporting. We appreciate your feedback and reports of glitches such as frozen pages, error messages, or difficulty with searches and are working hard to improve your experience as soon as possible.
It’s important to know that while these errors are frustrating and can cause issues with donations, they are not a result of an attack. Your privacy and security were at the top of our minds when we chose Classy as our new Bowl-a-Thon platform, and we’re working closely with their team to coordinate fixes by doing the following:
- Sharing error documentation and timeline for fixes with Classy pro-support
- Regularly receiving and responding to emails to help troubleshoot with participants
- Creating a bug report template for coordinators (coming soon)
- Maintaining this systems updates page
We’re anticipating that more fixes will occur through the end of April as donors and participants encounter any difficulties. Following Bowl-a-Thon, we will continue working on additional improvements to make the sites easier to use.
The good news is that at the beginning of April, we were $200,000 ahead of what we raised this time last year! That gives us hope that a number of people were able to move through the donation process smoothly, and we want that to be true for everyone who arrives on a Bowl-a-Thon page.
If you ever need to make a donation outside of the Bowl-a-Thon platform, you have the option of making a donation directly to the organization you want to support. Find a list here. If you’d like your donation made through another platform to go to a Bowl-a-Thon participant or team, please feel free to forward the receipt to bowlathon /at/ abortionfunds /dot/ org with the full name and we’ll make sure it’s applied so they get credit toward their goal. We are firm believers in the power of grassroots fundraising, which at times requires flexibility and resourcefulness.
When you send in technical issues, this information is especially helpful:
- What page were you on?
- What were you in the process of doing?
- What browser were you using?
- Desktop or mobile?
- What did the error message say?
- Provide a screenshot if possible.
We’ve made so much progress since last year and couldn’t have come this far without your support. While we share your frustrations when errors happen, we are so grateful for your patience and willingness to keep us in the loop about the issues you encounter. We are convinced of the strength and resilience at the heart of this network.

Allocations for donations are now being correctly attributed to the team and fund. Donations made before today may not show up in a fund’s activity ticker, but all donations going forward should show up correctly.

Bowl-a-Thon has launched and is available at bowlathon.nnaf.org. This site will receive several updates in the coming week. At this time, some donations may require follow up to confirm attribution (where the donation should be listed). Some buttons on the site have text that is not visible, and we anticipate this issue will be resolved on or near 2/22/2017.
