Working on All Fronts to Make Abortion Access a Reality

Dear Friend,

This is an extraordinary time to be fighting for our lives.

In Arkansas, a ban on medication abortion — a safe and effective option — threatens the ability of people to get care in a way that’s often most accessible, especially for those in rural communities. In Iowa, a 6-week abortion ban threatens to render abortion illegal before most people even know they’re pregnant. And, nationally, a proposed gag rule would withhold federal funding for health centers that provide information about abortion, building off a dangerous legacy of abortion funding bans.

These setbacks break our hearts, but they don’t slow us down. They compel us to fund more deeply, to fight more boldly.

Abortion funds around the country are weaving together a vital safety net. With thousands of supporters like you leading the charge, we’re closing the gap between legal abortion and accessible abortion. We will always fund abortion and make sure that our callers have the resources, information, and support to control their reproductive futures.

Your support makes our work thrive, even in the most hostile climates.

Funding abortion is an intensely political act, not because abortion has been falsely framed as a “wedge” issue, but because it speaks to our collective ability to take care of each other, to rally around each others’ needs, and to build a powerful base of grassroots support to liberate us all. With your support, hand in hand with funding abortion, we’re widening our base and strengthening our bench to shift the balance of power.

  • Programs like our Network Movement Building Labs bring abortion funds together to grow their capacity, amplify their understanding, and build grassroots leadership to take on forces that keep abortion out of reach for so many.
  • Through policy trainings and coaching sessions, we’re building up abortion funds to advocate in the chambers of their city halls and state houses and challenge legislative cruelties like abortion bans and limits on what doctors can say to their patients.
  • By inviting individuals to join us as members and investing in their leadership, we’re expanding our network and bringing people who have abortions to the center of the public conversation, the coalition tables, and the halls of Congress.

Because of you, we can. We can move people, move money, challenge assumptions about who gives and receives help; shift perceptions about who has abortions; eliminate shame and fear.

Thank you for joining us in this fight. We are so much stronger because of you.

In Solidarity,

Yamani Hernandez
Executive Director

Texas abortion funds bring show of power as six-week ban faces challenges at Supreme Court

Friends, On November 1st, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments for two cases challenging Texas’ egregious abortion ban, SB 8. For 61 days and counting since the ban took effect, Texans have been unable to get care they need in their home state.  As attacks on abortion access mount, we’ll continue supporting abortion funds. Every Dollar Is an Action: Moving Money to Build Power

Fund abortion. Build power.  When we think about our community of donors, these two phrases go hand-in-hand. There’s a long history in this country of framing charitable giving as something that wealthy people do to help those who are less fortunate. We could fill this newsletter with a breakdown of where that narrative comes from […]
