About Safe Abortions For Everyone (SAFE) Maine

In 1989, a group of 14 concerned Mainers founded SAFE (Safe Abortions For Everyone) as an endowed fund. Their goal was to keep the fund in operation while keeping energies focused on service delivery instead of major fund-raising efforts. Today the fund continues their legacy. All funds raised by SAFE from the endowment and through fund raising are dedicated to our primary responsibility… the funding of abortions for Mainers in need. The only paid SAFE staff is a part-time bookkeeper. All other aspects of our fundraising and administration are handled by volunteers, including our Board of Directors. We are a 501(c)3 tax-exempt, non-profit corporation. SAFE is Maine’s only abortion fund.

Get Involved

SAFE relies on the generosity of individuals committed to offering Mainers a choice. The right to choose is meaningless without the resources to afford an abortion. In this time of increasing medical costs and economic inflation, the continued support of our donors is absolutely critical to our mission. Please help us support Mainers and their reproductive freedom.
