Count. Every. Vote.

Dear friend,

We prepared for the likelihood that the results of the presidential election would not be decided until days or even weeks after election day. In the midst of a global pandemic, people worked hard—harder than they ever should have had to—to cast their ballots. It’s critical we make sure the time is taken to count and verify every ballot. Even so, many of us are feeling anxious about the uncertainty ahead – about the election, about our families’ safety, and about our ability to afford and access healthcare and other basic needs.

This feeling of having our lives impacted so thoroughly by decisions that are made by those who too often don’t represent us or have our best interest in mind is unsettling. It is also all too familiar for Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities for whom reproductive justice is an aspiration, rather than a lived reality. Having our vote count, like access to healthcare, should never depend on where we live, our race, how much money we have, or whether our government agrees with our decision.

Today, I ask two things of you:

  1. Protect the election and call for every vote to be counted using these sample messages
  2. Donate directly to one or more local abortion fund

There is a lot on the line in this election, but regardless of the outcome, abortion funds will need more funding, more capacity, and more coordination to fight back against the continued erosion of abortion access and rights by a conservative supermajority on the Supreme Court and at the state level and to meet the needs of more people seeking abortions.

With your support, abortion funds will be here to connect people to the care they need to access and manage their abortions on their terms.

We’re all feeling overwhelmed, but it’s no time for a standstill. Take action. Ensure every vote is counted. Breathe, hydrate, rest. Donate to an abortion fund.

In solidarity,
Yamani
