Bowl-a-Thon 2018: An Awe-Inspiring Display of Collective Power

The National Abortion Access Bowl-a-Thon is the biggest grassroots abortion access fundraiser around, and we just hit our most ambitious goal ever. This year, 3,198 individual fundraisers raised $2,003,903.02 for local abortion funds.

From February through April, supporters like you had conversations with loved ones, with coworkers, with communities of faith, and with social media networks to proudly declare your support for abortion funds and the critical work we do. Because of you, abortion funds will be able to do much more this year than ever before.

Highlights from Bowl-a-Thon included:

  • 47 local abortion funds participated in Bowl-a-Thon 2018. Ten abortion funds participated for their first time ever, including three new states!
  • 64 events were held across 33 states.
  • The average fundraiser raised $331, with an average donation amount of $48 coming in every two minutes!
  • National Network of Abortion Funds beat our organizational goal and raised over $17,000 to support the strengthening of our network through programs like Bowl-a-Thon!

The average amount an abortion fund pledges to their clients is $145. Because of Bowl-a-Thon, and because of you, abortion funds will have the potential to support up to 13,820 people this year. More people who call abortion funds will hear, “Yes, we can help you.” Every year, Bowl-a-Thon makes crystal clear that small grassroots donations from thousands of people adds up to an impressive display of compassion and collective power. We truly cannot do this work without your support. This year, you showed up like superstars.

Get ready to celebrate TEN YEARS of Bowl-a-Thon in 2019, and in the meantime, please consider becoming an individual member so you can deepen your engagement with abortion funds.

Fund abortion. Build power.  When we think about our community of donors, these two phrases go hand-in-hand. The Collective Power Fund

This year, we are moving $1,000,000 directly to NNAF members via the Collective Power Fund. In the interest of deepening our commitment to existing grantees, we will not have Collective Power Fund (CPF) applications this year and are instead renewing grants to existing CPF grantees at the same level as FY 21.
